Lake Macquarie – Where Nature and Adventure Flow Together.

Summer Ready: Lake Macquarie Gears Up for Increased Visitors

As the summer season approaches, Lake Macquarie City Council is getting ready to welcome residents and tourists to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. With popular destinations like Caves Beach, Dudley Beach, and Redhead Beach expected to draw crowds, the council is implementing traffic management strategies to ensure a smooth experience for all visitors.

Brendan Callander, the Manager of Environmental Systems at Lake Macquarie City Council, emphasized the importance of managing the surge in visitors during the holiday season. Measures will be put in place at key locations to handle the increased demand and ensure the safety of everyone enjoying the city’s parks and beaches.

To maintain cleanliness during the bustling period, the council is ramping up the number of public bins and increasing their servicing frequency at high-traffic spots such as Naru Beach, Redhead Beach, and Warners Bay. Waste Services Manager Paul Collins highlighted the commitment to keeping the city clean, especially with the expected rise in waste levels over Christmas and New Year’s.

Visitors are encouraged to dispose of excess holiday waste responsibly, with facilities like the Awaba Waste Management Facility and Community Recycling Centre providing convenient drop-off options for items like polystyrene and flattened cardboard. The council is also reminding visitors to prioritize safety by wearing enclosed shoes when using these facilities.

As beach crowds swell during the summer, Brad Sutton, the Manager of Leisure Services, emphasized the significance of beach safety. Lifeguards will be stationed at patrolled beaches like Redhead, Caves, and Blacksmith to ensure the safety of swimmers. Sutton urged beachgoers to follow lifeguards’ instructions and swim between the designated flags for a secure and enjoyable beach experience.
