Lake Macquarie Holiday Hours: What’s Open and Closed This Season

As the holiday season approaches, residents and visitors of Lake Macquarie are keen to know about the operating hours of various facilities and services provided by the Lake Macquarie City Council. From customer service centers to waste management facilities, there are specific arrangements in place for Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025.

The Customer Service Centre, usually situated at the Council’s Administration Building, will be temporarily relocated to Speers Point Library during this period. Operating hours for the center will be affected, with closure starting from noon on December 24 and resuming at 9 am on January 2. Similarly, the Works Depot will also be closed from noon on December 24 and reopen on January 2.

For those interested in environmental initiatives, the Landcare and Sustainable Living Centre, known as umali barai-ku, will be closed from December 23 and will reopen on January 6. Waste collection services will experience a slight delay during the festive season, with collections scheduled a day later than usual between December 25 and December 27. The Awaba Waste Management Facility will be closed on Christmas Day but will resume normal operations on December 26.

Residents looking to dispose of bulky waste should note that there will be limited availabilities in December, and they are encouraged to book collections from January 2025 onwards or request drop-off vouchers.

In terms of recreational facilities, swim centers like Charlestown, Speers Point, Swansea, and West Wallsend will be closed on Christmas Day but will reopen on December 26 without programs. Programs at these centers will resume on January 4. Patrolled beaches such as Catherine Hill Bay, Caves Beach, Redhead, and Blacksmiths will maintain normal patrol hours from 9 am to 5 pm.

Cultural services like Lake Mac Libraries and the Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie will have adjusted operating hours during the holiday season. Libraries will be closed from December 25 to December 29, with limited hours on December 30 and 31, and normal hours resuming on January 2. The Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie will be closed from December 23 to December 26 and January 1, with reduced hours on other days.
