Lake Macquarie City Council is currently under scrutiny as authorities delve into a recent fire incident that occurred at the Speers Point Administrative Centre. Detectives from Strike Force Komiatum are leading the investigation following the blaze that erupted in the early hours of November 27.
CCTV footage has been crucial in shedding light on the events leading up to the fire, showing two individuals outside the building just before the incident took place. The council has cooperated by providing this footage to the NSW Police, who are actively pursuing leads related to the case.
Mayor Adam Shultz of Lake Macquarie has called upon the community for assistance, urging anyone who may have been in the vicinity between 2-4.30am on the day of the fire and has relevant information or dashcam footage to come forward and contact Crimestoppers at 1800 333 000.
Expressing gratitude towards the swift response of the first responders in containing the fire and the diligent efforts of the police in investigating the matter, Mayor Adam praised their dedication. Meanwhile, CEO Morven Cameron assured that the council is fully engaged with the detectives from Strike Force Komiatum, extending all necessary cooperation to aid in the investigation process.
As the investigations progress, Council is also liaising with their insurers to evaluate the extent of the damage caused by the fire and to develop a comprehensive recovery strategy. The Council remains committed to providing updates as more information surfaces regarding the incident.
