Lake Macquarie – Where Nature and Adventure Flow Together.

Lake Macquarie City Council’s Holiday Operating Schedule

As the festive season approaches, it’s time to plan your Christmas and New Year activities around Lake Macquarie City Council’s holiday schedule. From customer service centers to waste management facilities, here’s what you need to know.

During the Christmas period, the Customer Service Centre, usually situated at the Council’s Administration Building, will be relocating to the Speers Point Library. This temporary move will be effective from noon on December 24th and will resume regular operations at 9 am on January 2nd.

If you’re thinking of handling any waste disposal during this time, keep in mind that there will be no waste, recycling, or green waste collections on Christmas Day. Collection days between December 25th and December 27th will shift one day later than usual. However, normal waste collection services will resume from December 29th, including New Year’s Day.

For those planning to visit the Awaba Waste Management Facility, note that it will be closed on Christmas Day, with normal operating hours resuming on December 26th. Additionally, if you require bulky waste kerbside collections, there will be limited availabilities in December, so it’s advisable to book collections starting January 2025 or request a drop-off voucher.

When it comes to enjoying a swim or beach day, the Swim Centres at Charlestown, Speers Point, Swansea, and West Wallsend will be closed on Christmas Day but will reopen on December 26th without programs. Meanwhile, patrolled beaches like Catherine Hill Bay, Caves Beach, Redhead, and Blacksmiths will maintain their usual operating hours from 9 am to 5 pm.

For those interested in cultural experiences, Lake Mac Libraries will have varied hours during the holiday period. Most libraries will be closed from December 25th to December 29th, with some exceptions. Wangi Wangi, Cardiff, Belmont, Speers Point, Toronto, and Sugar Valley Library Museum will offer self-access from 7 am to 7 pm throughout the holiday season.

In the event of an emergency, the Council can be reached at 02 4921 0333.

Plan your holiday activities in Lake Macquarie around these operating schedules to make the most of the festive season while staying informed about the Council’s services.

Remember, the holidays are a time for celebration, so be sure to enjoy the beautiful surroundings that Lake Macquarie has to offer.
