A recent fire incident has led to the partial damage of Lake Macquarie City Council’s Administrative Centre located at Speers Point. The event, which occurred overnight, triggered the building’s closure the following day. Fortunately, the building was unoccupied at the time, and there were no reported injuries.
Following the activation of fire alarms around 4 am, the NSW Fire & Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene. Council CEO Morven Cameron has assured that investigations are currently ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and evaluate the extent of the damage incurred.
In response to the incident, all staff members of the Administrative Centre have been advised to work remotely. Consequently, the centre will remain closed to walk-in customers until further notice. However, essential inquiries can still be directed to Council’s Customer Service hotline at 02 4921 0333. For non-urgent matters, individuals are encouraged to reach out next week or email [email protected]
Ms. Cameron expressed gratitude towards the emergency services for their prompt intervention and extended appreciation to the community for their understanding during this time of inconvenience. Despite the closure of the Administrative Centre, all other Council services operating externally will continue to function without disruption.
