Fire Damages Lake Macquarie Council’s Administrative Centre

In a recent incident, Lake Macquarie City Council’s Administrative Centre faced significant damage due to a fire outbreak, prompting Mayor Adam Shultz to seek public assistance in resolving the matter.

The emergency occurred at the Speers Point building on Main Road, where Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) swiftly responded to combat the blaze that erupted around 3.50 am on Wednesday, November 27. Despite the efforts to extinguish the fire, the premises suffered extensive destruction, requiring repairs that are estimated to run into several million dollars.

The council has been actively collaborating with detectives from Strike Force Komiatum and has shared CCTV footage with the NSW Police showing two individuals outside the building just before the fire incident. Mayor Shultz emphasized the importance of any information or dashcam recordings from the vicinity between 2 am and 4.30 am on the said date to be reported to Crimestoppers at 1800 333 000.

Expressing gratitude towards the first responders and the NSW Police for their relentless efforts in managing the situation, Mayor Shultz stressed the urgency of identifying and apprehending those responsible for the fire. Lake Macquarie City Council’s CEO, Morven Cameron, highlighted ongoing cooperation with the investigation team and insurance providers to assess the damage thoroughly and devise a comprehensive recovery plan.

The council anticipates releasing further updates as the investigation progresses. The incident underscores the significance of community support and vigilance in safeguarding public properties like the Lake Macquarie Council’s Administrative Centre.
