In the pursuit of a sustainable future for Lake Macquarie, the Eco Exchange event is set to offer a platform for climate science experts to delve into innovative solutions. Scheduled for Saturday, February 22, the event will take place at the Landcare and Sustainable Living Centre in umali barai-ku.
The highlight of the Eco Exchange will be a compelling climate action discussion panel led by local thought leaders, interactive workshops, and a presentation by the renowned climate scientist and writer, Dr. Joelle Gergis. With over 130 scientific publications to her name, Dr. Gergis is an authority in Australian and Southern Hemisphere climate variability and change.
Chris Harle, the Coordinator of Sustainability Engagement at Lake Macquarie City Council, expressed excitement about the waste-free event that will not only educate but also entertain attendees. The program includes live music, a guided tour of the flourishing ‘tiny forest’ planted in 2023, and a bike valet service offering free maintenance.
Harle emphasized the event’s inclusivity, stating, “Eco Exchange provides people of all ages and backgrounds with an opportunity to learn, engage, and contribute towards a more sustainable future for our community.” The council is privileged to host Dr. Gergis, whose insights on climate change impacts on communities like Lake Macquarie are eagerly anticipated.
The Eco Exchange, featuring complimentary ice creams and children’s activities, will run from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. For further details, visit lakemac.com.au, and be part of the movement towards a greener and more sustainable Lake Macquarie.
