A remarkable transformation has taken place at Tacking Point Lighthouse, situated in the picturesque Lake Macquarie region. The unveiling of a new walkway and viewing platform has added a touch of accessibility and inclusivity to this iconic spot, enhancing the experience for both locals and tourists.

The project, a joint effort funded by the NSW Government and Port Macquarie Hastings Council, has infused $750,000 and $450,000 respectively into the development. This infusion of funds aims not only to offer a safe and inclusive environment but also to enrich the tourism sector by allowing people of all abilities to revel in the stunning vistas at the northern end of Lighthouse Beach.

Minister for Regional NSW, Tara Moriarty, expressed her excitement about the newly accessible destination, emphasizing the significance of making tourist attractions open to everyone. Mayor Adam Roberts echoed this sentiment, highlighting the project’s role in providing a safer and more inclusive infrastructure for the community.

The upgrades at Tacking Point Lighthouse feature a range of enhancements, including a reinforced walkway, handicapped parking, whale watching lookouts, and artistic installations by local artists. The careful planning of the boardwalk and seating areas ensures a seamless blend with the natural surroundings, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams, shared historical insights about Tacking Point, tracing its origins back to early explorer Matthew Flinders in 1802. Today, the Lighthouse stands as a beacon of Lake Macquarie’s maritime history, inviting visitors to explore its rich heritage and breathtaking views.
