If you are looking to immerse yourself in the wonders of nature and capture some stunning photographs, Lake Macquarie is the place to be. The Lake Macquarie City Council has launched an exciting program called “Explore Our Great Outdoors” that offers a wide range of activities both on the water and in the wilderness, including nature photography competitions for all ages.
Participants stand a chance to win Go-Pros and other exciting prizes by submitting images that showcase ‘things that grow and move’ or the overall essence of the great outdoors. Renowned local nature photographer, David Diehm, will be judging the entries. Diehm emphasized that photography is a way to express a deep connection with nature, encouraging individuals to find their unique creative vision.
The program encompasses activities like rockpool rambles, adventure kayaking, bird watching at Belmont, Aboriginal cultural tours, and even a new activity focused on sea turtles and sandcastles at Blacksmiths Beach. The ‘sea turtles and sandcastles’ activity, conducted by Hunter Wildlife Rescue, aims to educate families about the world of sea turtles and their significance in Lake Macquarie’s marine environment. Families will also get the chance to build their own sea turtle sandcastles, with a prize awarded to the creation that best highlights ways to support the local turtle population.
Chris Harle, the Council Coordinator for Sustainability Engagement, expressed enthusiasm for the new additions to the program, emphasizing the educational and interactive aspects that will appeal to families and nature enthusiasts alike.
