Lake Macquarie – Where Nature and Adventure Flow Together.

Exploring Cultural Narratives Through MAP Mima Exhibition in Lake Macquarie

In the heart of Lake Macquarie, a captivating exhibition is set to mesmerize audiences with a fusion of personal tales, cultural legacies, and modern storytelling. The innovative showcase, titled Kultura Collectiva: Theatre of Memories, is scheduled to debut at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima, on 28th February.

Crafted by artists from Japan and Indonesia, this immersive experience promises a 360-degree visual journey within MAP mima’s cutting-edge Cube. Curator David Rastas envisions the exhibition as a deep dive into memory, migration, and shared identity through diverse art forms.

The Theatre of Memories weaves a tapestry of narratives using visual artistry, soundscapes, and historical artifacts to evoke introspection and communal connections. By reimagining local histories from an external perspective, the artists challenge conventional storylines, infuse fresh perspectives, and invite reinterpretation of the past.

Dias Prabu, the visionary behind Kultura Collectiva, aims to transform historical accounts into living, evolving sagas rather than static archives. By peeling back layers and exploring emotions, the exhibition sparks a dialogue on the fluidity and subjectivity of history.

This ambitious project blossomed during a three-week residency at the Lake House as part of the Lake Macquarie Arts Artist Residency Program. Mr. Rastas hails the exhibition as a poignant exploration of memory’s dual nature – personal yet universally resonant, employing digital art to transcend cultural boundaries and revive storytelling traditions.

The grand opening of this free exhibition on 28th February promises enriching insights, featuring artist discussions, live performances by Jaeko Siena, and a chance to connect with the creative minds behind the endeavor.
