In a somber turn of events in Lake Macquarie, emergency services have discovered a body after a search was initiated for an individual who became separated from a small boat.
The incident unfolded when a man, reportedly aged 60, was trying to salvage a yacht that had run aground around a week ago near Lake Macquarie. As he attempted to recover the vessel using a blue and yellow “tinny,” which later detached from its mooring, the man found himself adrift in the water.
Police were alerted to the situation at Croudace Bay Dog Park in Valentine following reports of the man’s disappearance. Despite efforts from various rescue teams including the marine area command and the Westpac rescue helicopter, the man could not be located on Monday evening.
Tragically, on Tuesday morning, the search effort concluded with the discovery of a body near a boat ramp in Valentine. While formal identification is pending, authorities believe it is the missing individual from the earlier incident.
As investigations continue, a report will be compiled for the coroner’s office to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the man’s disappearance and subsequent demise.
This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable and sometimes perilous nature of activities on the waters of Lake Macquarie, urging all to exercise caution and prioritize safety in all maritime endeavors.
