Lake Macquarie City Council has set its sights on the future with a comprehensive roadmap outlining the city’s economic, environmental, social, and governance objectives for the next decade. The recently approved Community Strategic Plan 2025-2035 (CSP) encapsulates the collective aspirations and concerns of over 32,000 residents who actively participated in shaping the city’s trajectory.
Key priorities highlighted in the plan encompass a strong emphasis on advocating for improved transportation infrastructure, including pressing the NSW and Federal Governments for better main roads and public transport. The community’s feedback underscored the significance of investing in walking and cycling networks, upgrading local roads, and preserving the natural landscapes that define Lake Macquarie.
Mayor Adam Shultz emphasized the pivotal role of community input in refining the city’s vision, ensuring alignment with the diverse needs of Lake Macquarie’s populace and visitors. The CSP serves as a compass for Council’s decision-making processes, influencing crucial documents like the Delivery Program and Operational Plan, while striving to realize four overarching goals by 2035.
These goals envision Lake Macquarie as a city that cherishes its natural heritage, fosters a dynamic economy, cultivates a sense of belonging among its residents, and upholds principles of governance marked by trust and transparency. Collaboration with external stakeholders, including government entities and the private sector, is deemed essential to achieving these ambitious objectives.
As Lake Macquarie embarks on this transformative journey, Mayor Adam reiterated the commitment to ongoing advocacy efforts directed at higher authorities for enhanced public services, with a particular focus on public transport improvements. The new CSP is slated to come into effect from 1 July, signaling a new chapter in the city’s evolution towards a more sustainable and interconnected future.
