A new chapter unfolds at Waterfront Park as the city unveils its latest additions for watersport enthusiasts. The park now boasts a concrete boat ramp and floating dock launching pad, offering rental services for kayaks and paddleboards along the Intracoastal Waterway. This development marks a significant milestone in responding to the community’s desires.
Palm Coast Parks & Recreation Director James Hirst expressed the community’s excitement during the ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 18. The renovation project, totaling $1.2 million, received funding from various sources, including the Florida Inland Navigation District, impact fees, and the city’s capital funds.
Visitors can now explore the waterway with kayaks, canoes, and rowboats, in addition to enjoying the new QR code information stations and enhanced landscaping. The project, initiated in November 2022, aimed to revamp the Children’s Memorial Garden while providing a recreational haven for residents and visitors alike.
Mayor David Alfin highlighted the park’s new features, emphasizing the addition of a kayak launch, a scenic patio area, and improved shoreline landscaping. The park now offers self-service PADL rental kiosks, starting from $25 per hour, with monthly membership options available. The revenue-sharing agreement with PADL ensures a mutually beneficial partnership, with plans to expand rental stations in the near future.
The Children’s Memorial Garden, a serene spot within Waterfront Park, serves as a poignant tribute to lost loved ones. Mayor Alfin described it as a place of solace and reflection, embodying the park’s essence of tranquility amidst its recreational offerings.
Mike Pino, the superintendent for the renovation project, expressed pride in his work on Waterfront Park, having also contributed to other notable projects in the area. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by various city officials and stakeholders, symbolized the culmination of months of dedication and collaboration.
The rejuvenation of Waterfront Park represents a significant investment in the community’s recreational infrastructure, aligning with the growing interest in outdoor activities and watersports. The partnership with PADL reflects a strategic approach to enhancing visitor experiences while promoting sustainable recreational opportunities.
As the park welcomes paddling enthusiasts and nature lovers, its transformation underscores the city’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive recreational environment for residents and visitors. The blend of natural beauty and modern amenities at Waterfront Park sets a new standard for waterfront leisure and community engagement.
