Lake Macquarie – Where Nature and Adventure Flow Together.

Storm Recovery Aid Available for Lake Macquarie Residents

Residents of Lake Macquarie are now able to access storm recovery assistance following severe weather conditions in January 2025. The Lake Macquarie City Council has been included in the natural disaster declaration by the NSW Government, offering relief measures like grants and loans to individuals and businesses affected by the storms.

Power has been fully restored in Lake Macquarie, and residents experiencing power outages exceeding 12 hours due to the storms may be eligible for compensation up to $250 from Ausgrid for food spoilage. The council advises residents to dispose of all spoiled food and scraps in the green bin, which is collected weekly.

For property damage caused by fallen trees, the NSW SES can assist in removing debris. Property owners are encouraged to contact their insurance companies for tree debris removal or utilize services like the bulky waste collection at the Awaba Waste Management Facility. Residents disposing of storm-related bulky waste at the facility will be exempt from the waste levy until the end of February.

In terms of waste management, residents are urged to use the kerbside collection service for bulky items. Additionally, Lake Macquarie residents can report potholes on roads for maintenance and repairs. Hunter Water advises against swimming in local waterways until normal operating conditions are restored post-storm.

For further information and assistance, residents can visit the council’s website or contact the customer service team. Despite the high volume of requests, the council is dedicated to supporting residents through the recovery process. The community is encouraged to stay updated on recovery efforts and available aid.
