The upcoming Council meeting of Lake Macquarie City Council is set for June 30, 2025, at Windale Hub. The ordinary meeting is scheduled to commence at 6:30 pm. For those unable to attend in person, the proceedings can be viewed live online at webcast.lakemac.com.au. The agenda includes various items up for discussion, with the full agenda available for viewing online.
One of the key topics on the agenda is the consideration of funding for 21 event applications under the Event Funding Program 2025-2026. Notable events such as Let’s Surf Lake Mac, Lake Macquarie Max Adventure Race, and the Italian Festival Lago Di Mac are among those vying for financial support. Last year, the program backed 51 events, drawing over 110,000 attendees and generating an economic impact of $7.6 million.
Another crucial matter to be deliberated upon is the adoption of ordinary rates for the upcoming financial year 2025-2026. Based on the rate peg of 4.5% set by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART), these rates reflect the latest land valuations by the Valuer General. The proposed rates were on display in the draft Operational Plan 2025-2026.
Council will also be reviewing and potentially implementing a new Financial Sustainability Policy, aligning with the Local Government Act 1993’s mandate for sound financial management. This policy, developed in consultation with key stakeholders, aims to ensure the fiscal health and sustainability of Council operations.
Furthermore, Council is slated to address the outcomes of the Lake Macquarie Housing Forum held earlier in April 2025. The forum focused on enhancing housing supply and affordability in the region, with an action plan derived from the discussions. This plan outlines policy suggestions, corresponding actions, timelines, and responsibilities.
In another significant move, Council will be considering an application to transition the Hunter Sports Centre to a company limited guarantee structure, necessitated by recent expansion works. The upgraded Hunter Region Sports Centre now offers enhanced facilities such as a Trampoline Centre of Excellence, following completion in March 2025.
Lastly, the Traffic Facilities and Road Safety Committee will be proposing the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Alliance Avenue and Wyee Road in Morisset. This measure aims to enhance road safety and traffic management in the area. For a comprehensive list of recommendations, interested parties can refer to the meeting agenda.
