A self-service kayak rental business, Kayakomat, is set to reopen in Sheringham after a temporary closure due to safety concerns. The Swedish company had to halt its operations on Sheringham promenade following queries from the North Norfolk District Council regarding safety measures. This decision came in the wake of the town’s RNLI operations being suspended earlier in the year due to cliff instability behind the lifeboat station.
The operator of the Sheringham franchise, Sam Richmond, faced challenges when the council raised safety issues, prompting a temporary shutdown. However, after discussions with the council, it was agreed that having staff on-site to manage the kayak station would address the safety concerns. Consequently, Richmond relocated to Sheringham to oversee operations, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for customers.
Previously, customers were only provided with online safety briefings, but now, with Richmond on-site daily, personalized safety instructions and advice on local nautical conditions will be available. The updated safety measures and procedures have been developed in collaboration with the Health & Safety team of the council to ensure compliance and enhance customer safety.
The kayak rental unit will operate during beach lifeguarding hours, from 10am to 6pm, and will close if red flags are raised indicating unsafe conditions. The official relaunch of Kayakomat in Sheringham is scheduled for June 21, offering kayak hire starting at £29 for two hours for a single kayak. The franchise aims to provide a safe and enjoyable watersport experience for locals and tourists alike.
The reintroduction of Kayakomat in Sheringham signifies a positive step towards promoting outdoor leisure activities in the area. By addressing safety concerns and implementing enhanced safety protocols, the business aims to ensure a secure environment for customers to enjoy kayaking along the picturesque coastline. This move aligns with the growing trend of outdoor recreational activities, catering to the increasing demand for watersport experiences.
With the support of the North Norfolk District Council and the commitment of the franchise operator, Kayakomat is poised to offer a unique and enjoyable watersport hire experience in Sheringham. The presence of staff on-site, personalized safety briefings, and adherence to safety guidelines demonstrate a proactive approach towards ensuring customer satisfaction and safety. As the business prepares for its official relaunch, it seeks to contribute to the local tourism industry and provide a memorable watersport experience for visitors.
As the summer season approaches, the reopening of Kayakomat in Sheringham presents an exciting opportunity for watersport enthusiasts to explore the scenic coastline and enjoy outdoor activities in a safe and controlled environment. By adapting to feedback and collaborating with local authorities, the franchise exemplifies a commitment to delivering high-quality services while prioritizing customer safety and satisfaction.
