The Belmont North Community Recycling Centre, a recent initiative by Lake Macquarie City Council, has officially opened its doors to residents. Situated at 56-60 Floraville Road, Belmont North, this center offers a convenient and safe solution for disposing of various household waste items at no cost. The facility commenced operations on June 16, 2025, marking a significant step towards promoting responsible waste management within the community.
However, due to an unfortunate fire incident at a processing facility in Sydney, the center is temporarily unable to accept certain problem wastes like embedded batteries and aerosols. Residents are advised to store these items securely until services resume normal operations. Despite these limitations, individuals can still dispose of a range of other waste materials, including motor oil, paints, gas cylinders, fluorescent light globes, e-waste, and more.
It is crucial for visitors to wear enclosed shoes when accessing the facility, ensuring their safety during disposal activities. Moreover, additional Community Recycling Stations at various locations, including Lake Mac Libraries, the Works Depot, and Landcare, have also reopened to facilitate waste management efforts across the region.
The establishment of the Belmont North CRC aligns with the broader Waste Less, Recycle More initiative by the NSW EPA, emphasizing the importance of sustainable waste practices and environmental stewardship. By providing a dedicated space for the responsible disposal of household items, the center aims to promote a cleaner, greener community while raising awareness about the significance of proper waste management.
Furthermore, the operational hours of the facility cater to the convenience of residents, with the center open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays and 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on weekends. This accessibility ensures that individuals can easily drop off their waste materials during their daily routines, contributing to the overall efficiency of waste collection and recycling processes.
As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Lake Macquarie City Council continues to implement initiatives that prioritize waste reduction, recycling, and community engagement. By establishing facilities like the Belmont North Community Recycling Centre, the council demonstrates its dedication to fostering a culture of responsible waste management and environmental consciousness among residents.
