The Belmont Wharf replacement project at Brooks Parade in Lake Macquarie is set to transform the aging infrastructure into a modern design, enhancing the aquatic facilities at Belmont foreshore. The new wharf, scheduled for construction from July 2025 to early 2026, will offer improved access and functionality, featuring a longer and wider structure than its predecessor.
With a procurement phase already complete, the project will see the existing wharf closed during construction. The upgraded wharf will extend about 71m in length, providing additional space for visitors. The construction will incorporate durable materials suitable for marine conditions, including tubular steel piles, reinforced concrete headstocks, and a deck framed in aluminium and stainless steel.
Notable features of the new wharf include a pump-out station for marine waste management, D-Fenders to protect moored vessels, and a concrete abutment connecting the wharf to the existing pathway seamlessly. These enhancements aim to elevate the visitor experience and ensure the wharf’s longevity and functionality.
During the construction period, which spans from July 2025 to early 2026, the wharf will be inaccessible to the public, prioritizing safety and uninterrupted progress. Environmental protections are in place, with monitoring of seagrass and marine life before, during, and after construction to mitigate any impact and comply with regulatory requirements.
Boaters seeking alternative facilities during the closure can utilize sewerage disposal services at nearby locations like Toronto Wharf, Styles Point Rathmines, and Dobell Park Wangi. Access to Belmont Baths or Green Point will be available to maintain services and accessibility for the community.
Lake Macquarie City Council’s commitment to preserving the local environment and enhancing public amenities is evident in the Belmont Wharf replacement project. The new infrastructure will not only offer improved functionality and access but also contribute to the overall appeal and recreational value of Belmont foreshore.
As construction progresses, residents and visitors can look forward to a revitalized waterfront experience that aligns with the council’s vision for sustainable development and community engagement in Lake Macquarie.
