The total prize pool amounts to $40,000, with additional awards of $5,000 each for the ‘yapang Award’ and the ‘Lake Mac Award’ honoring Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artists and Lake Macquarie artists, respectively.
Jasmine Kean, the MAC yapang Art Producer, highlighted the cultural and artistic significance of this prize, emphasizing its role in enriching the city’s artistic landscape. The competition aims not only to add value to MAC yapang’s permanent collection, currently valued at $3 million but also to enhance the community’s engagement with art and culture.
Artists from all disciplines across Australia are invited to participate in the MAC yapang Art Prize. A panel of judges will curate finalists and winners, whose works will be showcased in the MAC yapang Art Prize exhibition from 18 October to 7 December.
