Mayor Adam Shultz of Lake Macquarie expressed pride in supporting the Liveability Census every two years, emphasizing the significance of this initiative in capturing the essence of what is most important to the community. Whether it is the preservation of green spaces, improvement of transportation infrastructure, enhancement of local services, or fostering a strong sense of community, this survey serves as a platform for individuals to voice their concerns and aspirations. The findings of the 2023 Liveability Census revealed that a substantial 81% of respondents in Lake Macquarie were content with the livability of their neighborhoods, with a particular emphasis on the natural environment as the primary community value. Favorable opinions were also expressed regarding neighborhood safety, housing diversity, and ease of parking and driving when compared to national averages. Noteworthy priorities identified by participants included the enhancement of public open spaces and shared pathways.
Over the past two years, Lake Macquarie City Council has made significant strides in enhancing the region, with notable projects such as the Fernleigh Track extension and the Rathmines Youth Hub. Mayor Adam highlighted the importance of monitoring changes in residents’ priorities and concerns through the evolving survey data, which aids in informed decision-making and resource allocation across the local government area.
